In August of 2008, MBL joined the Los Angeles County Municipal Operator’s TAP program and replaced the fare boxes onboard the MBL fleet with fare media designed with the TAP technology. TAP allows patrons to load cash value or a fare product on a chip enabled smart card. Each time patrons board and tap their card on the fare box; the correct fare is deducted or recorded as payment.

All Metro passes and stored value are now sold on TAP, a durable plastic card you can use again and again. It’s eco-friendly, because using TAP eliminates tons of disposable paper passes and stamps.

Each TAP card has an electronic chip inside; just load the type of pass and stored value you want on your card, and the chip remembers it. Then you simply tap your card each time you board, and the bus farebox or rail validator looks for valid pass first. If no valid pass is found it will deduct from your stored value.

Montebello Bus Lines now offers a day pass for those passengers who make multiple trips throughout the day using Montebello buses. The unlimited ride day pass will give you the freedom to make as many trips as you need for one low price. With the day pass, you can take unlimited rides in any direction on any one-calendar day. Day passes are good all day, from the time of purchase until midnight.

MBL UNLIMITED STUDENT MONTHLY PASS ($30.00 per card)

Montebello Bus Lines offers a monthly pass for students currently enrolled in grades K-12.

How does this pass work?

• Unlimited rides for the entire month on MBL.
• The card can be purchased at the Montebello Transportation Facility.
• Each month requires a new card with the current month printed on the inside of the card for verification.
• Bus operator may check ID. It is required that you carry a valid school ID card with you.
• The pass can only be purchased on the 25th of the current month until the 10th of the following month.
• The following locations ONLY load the MBL Student Pass:

The EZ Transit Pass will benefit transit riders who are frequent users of two or more of the fourteen participating transit agencies. The EZ Transit Pass will allow you to transfer to any of the participating transit agencies in Los Angeles County for unlimited rides for the month.

The participating agencies are Commerce Municipal Bus Lines, Culver CityBus, Foothill Transit, Gardena Municipal Bus Lines, Glendale Beeline, LADOT, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Metro Bus & Metro Rail, Norwalk Transit, Santa Clarita Transit, Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus, Torrance MAX and Torrance Transit.

EZ Transit Passes can be purchased after the 25th of the previous month and will not be available for sale after the 10th of the current month.
